About This Activity

Bridgton Rec Emergency Temporary School Aged Childcare COVID-19 has certainly had its impact on the world as well as our community. I have heard from many concerned parents about how and what can they do with their children on days they will not be in school. It is a legitimate concern for every family with children across the country. As the Lake Region School District irons out its plans for reopening of its schools it seems potentially Bridgton will be divided into two groups. It is not clear how the groups will be determined however there is still the likelihood children in grades 2-12 will not be physically be at school five days a week. It has been determined that the School Aged Childcare program (SACC), the only program in Bridgton able to support a larger group of elementary aged children, will be unable to operate this fall and has suspended operations until further notice. There are many families in our community that work five days a week. Many of our participants parents work in our local businesses and help keep them open. The citizens of Bridgton have always been supportive of this department and I feel that providing this program is an obligation to our families with children, and a necessity to the continued success of our community. Starting September 14th, the Town of Bridgton Recreation Department will create a temporary elementary school aged childcare option for children unable to physically attend school due to the nature of the Lake Region School District back to school plan. The program will be based out of the Town Hall Gym and Ice Rink. Children from grades 2-6 can attend the childcare program on days they are not in school. For example, if John was in the Monday/Wednesday school group John could attend Bridgton Rec Childcare Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. If John was the Tuesday/Thursday group John could attend Bridgton Rec Childcare on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Fridays both school groups are able to register for the day.
