About This Activity
The Herreshoff Marine Museum’s Summer Sailing Camp offers a dynamic, hands-on introduction to sailing in the heart of Bristol Harbor. Campers learn the fundamentals of sailing—wind awareness, boat handling, knots, and water safety—while connecting with the rich maritime legacy of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. Onshore activities and museum visits complement time on the water, helping campers understand how classic yacht design and innovation shaped American sailing. Each day balances skill-building with fun, giving campers the chance to grow their confidence and independence in a supportive environment. Experienced instructors lead small groups, emphasizing teamwork, seamanship, and respect for the marine environment.
