At Zine Studio, young artists explore the world of DIY zine-making, book arts, and self-publishing through hands-on projects and creative experimentation. Whether you're into drawing, writing, collage, comics, or just curious about making something of your own, there's room to explore. At this Veteran’s Day Zine Studio, students will explore how books are made, from their individual components to the techniques that bring them together. Students will begin by creating a community agreement zine and learning about the bookmaking tools, materials, and parts of a book. They’ll then practice pamphlet stitch binding to create a simple booklet before moving on to the more advanced technique of Coptic binding. Through guided demonstrations and independent making, students will learn how to fold paper, thread needles, punch sewing holes, assemble signatures, and construct a book with an exposed spine. Along the way, they’ll have opportunities to experiment with writing, drawing, collage, and other forms of mark-making to personalize their books. Designed to teach skill development as well as encourage curiosity, collaboration, and creative autonomy, this full day studio invites students to build practical bookmaking skills, learn from one another, and discover new possibilities for their own self-publishing projects
