About This Activity
Description
Here is a course for people already frequently writing short stories, novel chapters, and/or non-fiction creative essays. It’s for those who know the foundations of writing stories, and who now wish to sharpen their understanding of the mechanics of creative writing. Leaning heavily on advice presented in the Red Sneakers Writers Book Series by mystery author William Bernhardt, we’ll learn about and discuss description, creating character, dialogue, style, and editing. Each week we’ll also discuss two stories from literary magazines (reading them will be your homework). We’ll examine writing published by top USA literary magazines (New Yorker, Atlantic, Granta), and also by magazines friendly towards new writers (New Delta Review, Literary Orphans, Neon, etc.) The teacher hopes that during the course everyone will submit something to a literary magazine.
