About This Activity
OVERVIEW & TEACHING PHILOSOPHY The Smith Walbridge Mace & Signal Baton Clinic is specialized for drum majors. Teaching focuses on showmanship, using a mace or various types of signal batons. Students are encouraged to develop their own style by adapting the fundamentals they learn at the workshop. Instructors demonstrate how this is accomplished. The workshop is ideal for both high school and college drum majors. A limited number of maces are available for purchase at the clinic. A limited number of practice maces may be reserved for check-out at the clinic. CLINIC AGENDA Spice up performance skills with spectacular tricks, salutes, and twirling routines Develop a dynamic visual presentation sure to dazzle the audience and the judges too! Break away from common Drum Major staging, making a powerful contribution to the visual elements of the band’s performance Expert instructors with extensive performance experience Three levels of instruction A short demonstration is presented at 11:00 AM on the last day behind Taylor Hall for parents, sponsors, directors and friends.
