Students will learn basic American Sign Language including ABCs, numbers, greetings, simple sentences, and will be exposed to deaf culture. The course will teach you to create and sign simple and gradually complex sentences, along with a vocabulary building lab. Reading along in ASL will be implemented in the class to practice cumulative learning skills, as well as broadening the ability to understand other ASL speakers. Recorded videos are provided for the book readings in addition to others signing in ASL to encourage concrete proficiency in the language. This is a great environment to practice using the language for those wanting to communicate with deaf or hard-of-hearing people. If you have been contemplating a career change, there are endless opportunities in educating deaf members of the community as well as sign language interpreting. Textbook and flash cards are included in the cost.

Seniors will be asked to show their Champion card on the first night of class.
