During this presentation, Colonel G.A. Stratton USMC (Ret) will explore how the Federal Army squandered one of its best opportunities to capture the defenseless city of Richmond and the vulnerable Confederate government in the Spring of 1864. This five-dimensional campaign showcased how Federal and Confederate leaders used psychological warfare, intelligence and counterintelligence along with traditional cavalry, naval and ground operations ending with the 'Bottling-Up" of Major General Benjamin Butler's Federal Army of the James and maintaining of Richmond in Confederate hands.
