Multi-sensory musical, movement or ensemble sessions use what each person likes, things they are good at, and things they need help with to make a program that matches their goals. Fun and engaging sessions give people a chance to learn and practice social, music and life skills. No previous music or music therapy experience is needed. For young children or those with less language, goals may include improving skills like remaining with the group, paying attention to others, sharing or turn-taking. Older people may focus on skills like group decision-making, problem solving, cooperation and on-topic conversation. Intergenerational Music Therapy Groups allow parents, other family members, and caregivers to enjoy quality time with their loved one and participate as active partners, often receiving coaching in music experiences for home use. Anyone new to The Music Settlement needs an assessment before signing up.
