About This Activity
No prerequisite knowledge of chess needed, and all supplies will be provided. Students will learn the basic rules of play from United States Chess Federation (USCF) National Master (NM) Otis Wilson. This class focuses on making sure each student fully grasps the names and movement of each piece. Students will also be taught the following: check, checkmate, stalemate and castling. Each class will start with an instructional session to introduce new rules/concepts or reinforce previously taught rules/concepts, then will be followed with supervised practice play during which students will play with specific pieces and rules to reinforce what they have been taught.
