About This Activity
No prerequisite knowledge of chess is needed, and all supplies will be provided. Students will learn the basic rules of play. This class focuses on making sure each student fully grasps the names and movements of each piece. Students will also be taught the following: check, checkmate, stalemate, and castling. Each class will start with an instructional session to introduce new rules/concepts or reinforce previously taught rules/concepts, then will be followed with supervised practice play during which students will play with specific pieces and rules to reinforce what they have been taught.
