PreK Basketball DivisionNew Format: 1 weekday evening practice + games on Saturdays. Program will occur in the fall only (Oct. - Dec.)
We are implementing a resident/non-resident fee for all of our youth sports programs. If you are within Covington city limits or believe you are you must verify your residency HERE to be approved for the resident activity fee.
We heard your feedback and are providing more playing time for our PreK basketball players. The PreK Basketball division will now take place in the fall to allow weekday practices to go along with a game on Saturday. There will be no PreK Basketball in the winter.This introductory recreation league is designed specifically for PreK players to learn the fundamentals of basketball in a fun, positive, and supportive environment. Players will focus on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and building confidence both on and off the court.
Games & Practices: Each team will have one weekday evening practice each week led by volunteer coaches, with games taking place on Saturdays at Jenkins Creek Elementary. The program emphasizes learning the game, player development, and creating a fun first sports experience for young athletes.
Game Days: Oct. 31, Nov. 7, Nov. 14, Nov. 21, Dec. 5, Dec. 12. No games on Sat. Nov. 28.
Requests: We allow you to request playing with friends, playing for a specific coach, and certain practice days. We do receive many requests and try our best to meet all the requests. However, we cannot guarantee your request will be fulfilled.
Welcome to the League Email: An email will be sent out after the registration deadline with your coach's info, practice info, game schedule, and all the other important info you will need this season. You must provide us with an email address that is monitored regularly. The coach will contact you to introduce themselves shortly after.
Volunteer Coaches Needed: The more volunteer coaches we have, the more participants we can allow to enroll. You can find the coaching application on our website. Email it to athletics@covingtonwa.gov once complete.
Facts About Becoming a Coach:• 2-3 hours per week time commitment (practice, games, prep)• You will receive a 50% discount on your child's registration fee• We supply you with all your equipment and a coaches packet• Attend the mandatory informational coaches meeting• Seasons are generally 2 months long• Non-competitive, fun, and instructionalMore info can be found on the 'Coaches Corner' www.covingtonwa.gov/athletics
Early Bird Registration: Early bird discount window runs until Aug. 18. $10 fee increase after the early bird registration window closes after the 18th.
Registration Deadline: September 17. After this date, any remaining spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis; with the late registration fee added on. If you try to register after the 17th and a division is full, you will be placed on a waitlist. SPACE IS LIMITED! We cannot guarantee spots will be open on Sept. 17. Sign up early to reserve a spot on a team!
Equipment: We will provide each participant with a team jersey. You are required to provide sneakers and shorts/sweatpants. Practice basketballs will be given to coaches to use during practices. They need to stay with the coach. We are not giving away balls to each participant. We will be using a 7” basketball and playing on a 6.5 ft hoop.
Important Websites: If you haven't done so yet, please download the TeamSideline app. We will make all Team Sites live about a month prior to the first practice. In this app, you can see your coaches information, RSVP to practices and games, view your teams practice and game schedules, upload pictures only your team can see, and utilize the team chat function that will put you in direct contact with your coach without having to share your phone number/email, and send invites to family/friends to view your child's upcoming events.You can visit https://www.teamsideline.com/CovingtonWA for schedules, documents, and updates.
