Covington Parks and RecreationSpring Soccer League5th/6th Grade Boys DivisionOur spring soccer league is geared toward providing an opportunity for soccer players to sharpen skills and broaden their knowledge of soccer with an emphasis on fun, participation, and sportsmanship. This division is for our first time and returning soccer players that want to learn the fundamentals and learn about teamwork! Some skills that will be worked on include: shooting, dribbling, and passing.Sportsmanship and teamwork will also be strongly encouraged.
Games:Games will be played at Kentwood High School and Covington Community Park. A majority of soccer games will be on Saturdays. There may be an occasional weekday game.Kentwood High School: 25800 164th Ave SE, CovingtonCovington Community Park (CCP): 17649 SE 240th St. Covington
Game Days:March 8; March 15; March 22(Picture Day); March 29(Picture Day); April 5; April 19; April 26 (tentative, there may be an occasional weekday game as well)
Practices:Teams are scheduled to have one practice per week starting the last week of February. The practice day and time is determined by our volunteer coaches. The practice lengths are also determined by coaches, they generally run 45 - 90 minutes depending on the division. Practices will be held at local Covington schools and parks. If you have a certain practice day that works best for you please make that request during registration. We will try to match you with a coach that has a similar preference. NO REQUEST IS GUARANTEED.
Requests:We allow you to request playing with friends, playing for a specific coach, and certain practice days. We do receive many requests and try our best to meet all the requests. However, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE your request will be fulfilled.
Welcome to the League Email:An email will be sent out after the registration deadline with your coaches info, practice info, game schedule, and all the other important info you will need this season. It's very important you provide us with an email address that is monitored regularly. The coach will contact you to introduce themselves shortly after.

Volunteer Coaches Needed:The more volunteer coaches we have, the more participants we can allow to enroll. You can find the coaching application on our website at http://www.covingtonwa.gov/athletics/coaches.php. Email it to our Athletics Specialist, Curtis Carlson, athletics@covingtonwa.gov once complete.
Facts About Becoming a Coach:
- 2-3 hours per week time commitment (practice, games, prep)
- We supply you with all your equipment and a coaches packet
- Attend the mandatory informational coaches meeting
- Seasons are generally 2 months long
- Non-competitive, fun and instructional

Registration Deadline:Feb 4th. After this date, any remaining spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you try to register after the 4th and a division is full, you will be placed on a waitlist. SPACE IS LIMITED! We cannot guarantee spots will be open on the 4th. Sign up early to reserve a spot on a team!
Early Bird Registration Window:To encourage signing up early, we have created an early sign up window. Between Dec. 3rd and Jan. 14th will be considered the early bird registration window. After Jan. 14th, the registration fee will increase by $10. Registration will close on Feb. 4th, After that, all spots will be filled on a first come first served basis via the waitlist.
Equipment:We will provide each participant with a team jersey. You are required to provide sneakers, shin guards, and socks that cover the shin guards. Practice soccer balls will be given to coaches to use during practices. They need to stay with the coach. We do not give away balls to each participant.

Your coach will contact you mid February after the coaches meeting. You will receive the 'Welcome to the League' email around the same time with all your team information. Game and practice schedules will be emailed out in the 'Welcome to the League' email. Your coach will have hard copies of the game schedule to pass out at your first practice.Please make sure to attend the first practice. Your coach will have a quick parent meeting to discuss what they need help with throughout the season.
