About This Activity
Description
Join Friends of the Rappahannock to get moving and exploring at Mountain Run Lake, by land and water in this Introduction to Kayaking program. Youth participants ages 10-17 will participate in kayaking basics and get comfortable navigating through games and activities.
For example: learn parts of a boat, their functions, the buddy-carry, water safety, launching, landing and much more. Games will include an on-the-water scavenger hunt and kayak football!
If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll explore the park on land. Life jackets and kayaks are provided. Please bring water and wear closed-toe shoes (required to participate). Shoes will get wet!
Program meets once a week for one month and takes place on Mountain Run Lake, here in Culpeper.
Limited to 10 young kayakers; register early!
Funds for this program are made possible by the Healthy Community Actions Teams or HCAT, and the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth. This program promotes good nutrition and physical activity for youth.
