Mission Statement & League Policies
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission and goal of the City of Cumming Recreation & Parks Department Youth Basketball League is to provide a safe, positive, and comfortable environment where youth can learn and play organized basketball in the spirit of healthy competition.
Through participation in the league, we strive to teach and encourage teamwork, respect, confidence, sportsmanship, responsibility, and self-worth. Our goal is not only to teach the fundamentals of basketball, but also to help young athletes learn how to compete with a positive attitude, how to win graciously, and how to accept a loss with dignity and respect.
Practices will begin in early-November and will be held once per week, primarily Monday through Friday with two optional Saturday practices November 14 & 21. Games will begin in onSaturday, December 5th 2026, games will end the end of January first of February 2027 . The last two weeks of the season teams will play twice per week(once during the week and on Saturday), and practices will end.
Note: All Dates / Times for practices and games have yet to be determined
Players will go through an evaluation
The evaluation date and time are listed on the participant’s receipt.
These evaluations are not tryouts and are not used to cut players from the program. All children who register will be placed on a team and will participate in the season.
The purpose of the evaluations is to allow coaches to assess each player’s skill level so teams can be formed as evenly as possible. For this reason, it is very important that all players attend evaluations. Players who are unable to attend will still be placed on a team.
Team drafts will take place following the evaluations. Coaches will then contact families to inform them of their child’s team assignment and the date and time of the first practice.
Registration for the Winter Youth Basketball League is limited due to facility availability and program demand. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until program maximums are reached.

Youth Basketball League Refund DeadlineThe final day to request a refund for the CRPD Youth Basketball League Program is Friday, October 23rd.
No refunds will be issued after Friday, October 23rd.
This deadline applies to participants who are trying out for a school team, feeder team, travel team, or any other basketball program and have not yet received confirmation of whether they were selected.
After October 23rd, CRPD must begin preparing for player drafts and establishing team rosters. Once this process begins, player participation and team assignments must be finalized; therefore, refunds cannot be accommodated after the deadline.
INCLEMENT WEATHER / MISSED PRACTICES OR GAMES
Any practice or game missed by a participant, for any reason, will not be refunded.
If practices or games are canceled by CRPD due to inclement weather or another circumstance beyond CRPD's control, every effort will be made to make up missed games when scheduling permits. However, make-up games are not guaranteed.
If more than one game day is canceled due to inclement weather or other circumstances, only one canceled game day will be made up.If a make-up game cannot be scheduled on a Saturday, the make-up game may be scheduled on a weekday.
No refunds will be issued due to inclement weather, circumstances beyond CRPD’s control, or canceled games due to the lack of absent teammates in which a game cannot start because a team does not have the correct number of players to start the game.
CRPD has a limited number of make-up dates available. Additional make-up games can affect other programs, rentals, activities, and scheduled events at Dobbs Creek Recreation Center, as well as other sports and activities in which participants may be involved. For this reason, CRPD cannot guarantee that every canceled game can be rescheduled.
Weather-Related Updates
If inclement weather occurs and CRPD postpones or cancels a game day, information will be communicated through the appropriate league channels. A decision to cancel practices or games due to inclement weather will be made known to coaches and players the day before the practice or game, or on the day of within an hour of start time.
CRPD will send out mass emails or text messages if you have signed up for these types of communications with us. You can contact our main office for information on the ability to receive emails and text messages from CRPD. Participants and families should check with their coach and monitor the CRPD Facebook page, Instagram, Cumming Recreation and Parks website, or the City of Cumming Aquatic and Recreation App for the most current information regarding cancellations, postponements, and make-up games.
SECURITY
For the safety and security of our participants, families, coaches, and spectators, an off-duty, uniformed City of Cumming Police Officer or Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Deputy will be on duty during each game day.
CRPD asks that all participants, coaches, parents, and spectators help maintain a safe, respectful, and family-friendly environment throughout the basketball season.
All players must provide proof of age and identity at the time of registration. Acceptable documents include a Birth Certificate or Passport showing the participant’s name and date of birth. This documentation is required to verify placement in the correct age division.
• Documents may be submitted at registration, emailed, or brought to evaluations.• If proof of age is not provided by the evaluation date, the participant will be unable to participate and will receive a refund.
