About This Activity
The world’s greatest challenges need new science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) ideas and insights. Girlstart’s mission is to empower girls to solve this. We increase girls’ interest and engagement in STEM through nationally recognized informal STEM education programs. By empowering more girls to continue their interest in STEM, we help make bright futures. At Girlstart, we cultivate a culture where risk is rewarded, curiosity is encouraged, and creativity is expected. Girlstart After School is a weekly, fall semester program encouraging young women to believe in themselves and to pursue paths to higher education and greater career opportunities in STEM. Girlstart After School seeks to enhance and supplement girls’ science learning in the classroom through engaging activities that introduce important STEM concepts in a hands-on and informal environment. As a TEKS standards-aligned hands-on STEM program, Girlstart After School supports the science and math learning recovery and provides an additional 26 hours of science enrichment for our participants. Additionally, we incorporate cross-curricular components, including social and emotional skills, within our activities to further support participants' learning.
