The Volunteen Leadership Program offers teens, who will attend high school in Fall 2026, a positive training experience designed to build and strengthen their leadership skills. Volunteens will apply these skills and earn community service hours in the Summer Youth Recreation Program (SYRP) by assisting staff with facilitating and supervising activities and enrichment programs. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, demonstrating or leading sports, fitness activities, arts and crafts, cooking, and other recreational opportunities.Other opportunities such as workshops, field trips, community service in other programs, etc. may occur, but are subject to availability.
During the week of Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12, Volunteens will participate in the Training Week, which includes an orientation and a series of sessions designed to build skills in leadership, communication, and team building. On Friday, June 12, there will be a Welcome Summer Hangout from 5:00pm - 7:00pm for Volunteens to attend, hangout and bond with one another before the start of the program. A detailed schedule will be emailed closer to the start of the program.
Volunteens will be assigned at one of the Summer Youth Recreation Program locations and will be scheduled based on their availability and the needs of the location. Volunteens will have the opportunity to complete community service hours by working with youth participants in the Summer Youth Recreation Program from Monday, June 15 - Friday, July 31.
Lastly, Teen Hangouts will also be hosted once a week, at each of the Summer Youth Recreation Program locations. This may include, but is not limited to game nights, workshops, movie nights and more. Teen Hangouts are available for free to all Volunteens registered in the 2026 Volunteen Leadership Program. For non-Volunteens, there is a $5 registration fee with more information to be provided during the Training Week.
