About This Activity
This class introduces the vocabulary of book anatomy, the tools needed for hand book binding and material considerations for making beginner book structures. On the first evening we will explore hand decorated papers, using broad edged mark-making tools and round pointed tip brushes in calligraphic ways. The second night we will stitch two pamphlet books, binding them with soft and hard covers. Finally we will create pocket accordion books and begin to consider how to design an artist book. A $20 materials fee is due to the instructor the first night of class. Joelle Webber has spent over forty years collecting book arts techniques. Learning from mentors and in university settings. At Mermaid Bindery she provides custom binding services, creates artist books and crafts, and building on her creative experiences, she designs workshops for many different communities of makers.
