Period A. Playing and Creating Board Games Combine your creativity with your love for fun and strategy in this class! We’ll spend the first week playing different types of board games and learn what makes a game exciting, interesting, and most of all, fun. Then we’ll brainstorm new ideas to create our very own games, and then work together to make those ideas come to life. We’ll take turns playing each others games and have a blast! Instructor Juan Manuel Escobar is an Athenian Faculty member in the Math Department, and also loves coaching Athenian soccer, breakdancing, teaching in the Athenian afterschool enrichment program, and lending his many other talents to our community. Period B: Arts and Crafts with Polymer Clay In this class we are going to put our creative skills to use by making jewelry, figurines, key chains and other crafts with Polymer Clay! Polymer Clay is an art medium that is known for its flexibility and versatility. It stays continually soft and can be baked in a home oven, while keeping its color and size. You will learn how to work with the clay, learn basic techniques and create your own designs. Instructor Vanessa Restrepo has a passion for art, design, and fashion. She has been making jewelry and other clay creations for years and is an artist with her own company in the Bay Area. She loves working with youth to help expand horizons and share respect for our multicultural community.
