Period A: Beginner F1 Blockzone Robotics Racers start your engines! This class will build one small remote control F1 race car. We will explore many aspects of automotive engineering, and dive into what makes a fast car. Upon completion of the remote control cars, campers will have time to test and modify their cars before racing in the Athenian Grand Prix on the final day of class. Do you have what it takes to build the fastest car?!? This class is intended for beginners and intermediate block builders. Little to no experience required. This class is led by Athenian Assistant Athletics Director Zach Holt and resident block expert, and the goal is for kids to be able to learn about robotics while building socially with others. Each kid will take home their completed projects. Period B: Speech and Debate This course will focus on the basics of Speech and Debate for young students. Students will learn about competitive events and participate in activities to learn how to present in front of a captivated audience. From fun public speaking games to real application, students will receive training to be their best at competitive Theater, Public Speaking and Debate–aka Speech and Debate. Instructor Dontae Hill aka “The Forensics Guy” has been involved in Speech and Debate for over a decade. The Forensics Guy has dedicated his life to the activity and found a variety of ways to live out his mantra of making sure that every student has the opportunity to be impacted by Forensics. In 2013 he created Forensics Forever which originally began as an organization hosting Speech and Debate classes for elementary students in Wisconsin and is now a league that hosts online Speech and Debate tournaments for all students grades 3-12. Dontae is also the Athenian School Speech and Debate Instructor for the Upper School and Middle School.
