Period A: Hiking, Nature Exploration and Games The Athenian School sits on 75 acres of land at the base of the beautiful Mt. Diablo and there is plenty to explore right where we are! From hiking trails, to lizards and hidden animal homes, we’ll learn about the natural environment of Mt. Diablo and the animals and plants that call it home. We’ll hike, explore, learn, and play games as well. Instructor Trevor Slater is a math teacher and has a long career in education, including being an outdoor educator, coaching basketball, teaching archery and woodshop and much more. Period B: It's Field Games/Sport fun! We’ll play some collaborative games outside to get active and learn leadership and team-building skills. Whether you have never played these games before, or are an expert at these games, this is the course for you! After a few classes of learning a few basic fundamentals and rules of each game, we will spend the class time playing these games outside. All genders are welcome and encouraged. We will be playing: Flag Football Spike Ball Soccer Capture the Flag Volleyball Instructor Juan Manuel Escobar is an Athenian Faculty member in the Math Department, and also loves coaching Athenian soccer, breakdancing, teaching in the Athenian afterschool enrichment program, and lending his many other talents to our community.
