Period C: Discovery Science Calling all young Scientists! In this class budding scientists will be engaged in a wide variety of experiments that will open their minds to how fun science can be. The idea behind science is to see what happens “if”. We will mix and measure formulas and see what happens when we change an ingredient and keep all other conditions the same. Sometimes we end up with something great and sometimes we might end with a dud. The goal is to teach students to problem solve, not be afraid to experiment, and use critical thinking skills for a desired result. Instructor Azar T. has taught in Athenian’s Afterschool Enrichment program and Summer program for years, and has also supported Athenian as a substitute teacher. We always appreciate her care with our students. Period D:Fashion design with Fabric painting Join us to get creative with learning how to paint and design your own jean jacket! We'll look at other designs and come up with our own style and project and then learn how to safety create beautiful and wearable works of art using non-toxic spray paint and other art material. We may also use tools (depending on availability) in our maker space like the Vinyl cutter, adobe illustrator, and laser cutter. Please be prepared to bring your own clean jean jacket (new or used is fine) and note that once painted it can no longer be washed. For those who aren't able bring their own jacket, we will have fabric samples you can use. Instructor Juan Manuel Escobar is an Athenian Faculty member in the Math Department, and also loves coaching Athenian soccer, breakdancing, teaching in the Athenian afterschool enrichment program, and lending his many other talents to our community.
