Calligraphy is the art of beautiful writing. Learn calligraphy to make your handmade cards, letters and other creative projects more beautiful! Students will learn the basic technique and hand position for creating italic calligraphy, a beautiful alphabet originally used 500 years ago in Italy, during the Renaissance. Along the way we'll learn the calligrapher's vocabulary, try out different pens and tools and explore other alphabets. In addition to numerous other calligraphy art pieces, students will have an opportunity to laser-cut at least one of their hand-written creations on a piece of wood at our Carter Innovation Studio on campus. Kristen Calderon is a local artist and teacher who learned calligraphy in an after school program in 5th grade. Her love of writing beautifully led to a degree in graphic design and a deep appreciation for letter form and design. She really enjoys sharing this love with students of all ages.
