Period A: Let’s Make Puppets! Come experience the fun of theater, and at the same time, build your creativity, collaboration skills, and imagination! In this class, campers will use their creativity and crafting skills to make puppets! We will create characters, build scenery, and so much more. Improv games will be used to create our own fun. Come and create with us! Jonathan is a fifth grade teacher in Danville. Prior to that, though, he worked for many years in the exciting world of live theater. Over the last 5 years, Jonathan has brought these two passions together at the Summer Programs at Athenian, teaching theater! He loves watching as students become more confident in their creativity and presentation skills, and is excited to do it again this summer. Period B: Woodshop Basics In Woodshop Basics, campers will begin with hand tools and continue with power tools while learning about safety in the shop. Campers will design, plan, and build two objects– integrating tool knowledge and visual aesthetics. Campers will take home personal projects as a memento of their craft and growing knowledge. Instructor Trevor Slater is a math teacher and has a long career in education, including being an outdoor educator, coaching basketball, teaching archery and woodshop and much more.
