10 sessions x 60 minutes Tuesday - Aug 26 | Sept 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 | Oct 7, 21 | Nov 4, 18 Students will become vivid storytellers as they explore the art of descriptive reading and writing through sensory-rich language, powerful imagery, and engaging mentor texts. Each session focuses on a key skill using the five senses and strong verbs to show emotion, and building rich settings. With hands-on activities like verb charades, sensory stations, and drawing from visualization, students will learn how authors paint pictures with words—and how to do the same in their own writing. Using illustrated mentor texts, writing journals, and creative props, students will craft vivid paragraphs and character snapshots, culminating in a final piece that brings together all they’ve learned. Along the way, they will engage in peer editing using a checklist focused on voice, tone, sensory detail, figurative language, and structure. The program concludes with a celebratory Writers' Showcase, where students present their polished pieces and reflect on how their writing has grown.
