About This Activity

Description

Let’s learn about animals! Participants will spend their afternoon exploring, playing, and learning together. The Orcas Island Animal Protection Society is ready to welcome students into the world of caring for rescued animals. We will make friends with the dogs and cats that are in the shelter, while learning more about taking care of pets. Students will learn how to coexist with wild and domestic animals in their community and are motivated to take compassionate action for animals and the environment. Daily activities will include helping take care of animals by helping brush them, give them food and water, clean bedding, take them on walks, and more. We will spend time talking about other types of pets, doing animal art projects and games. Students will get information about small veterinary procedures that are performed there, but they will not be around any emergency situations. This class will take place September 28-November 2 on Mondays 3:45-4:45pm at the Orcas Animal Protection Society. Parent pick-up is from 4:45-5:00pm. Adults should plan to drop off and pick up kids from that location (school bus drop-off may be possible). The group instructor is Jessie McConville, who will be at the APS with the kids and is available in case any transportation help is needed. 84A Hope Ln, Eastsound, WA 98245. www.orcaspets.org This camp is ideal for kids ages 8-13 who: • are interested in nature, animals, and the world around them • can use soft voices and still bodies around animals • can remain calm and not pursue animals if they walk away or hide • are open to trying new things • will listen closely to adult instructions
