Description
Whether you’re a brand-new paddler or are just looking to refine your skills, this paddling basics class gives you the confidence to hit the water on your own! Learn paddling techniques, self-rescue, safety and gear selection for kayaks.Earn a certificate and patch by taking our Paddling Basics class and paddling our series of four MD waterways at least once within a three-year period. Even if you been kayaking several times in the past, join our instructors and pick up tips to paddle more efficiently and practice safe boating skills.

Minimal swimming ability required – we do not intentionally capsize the boats but kayaks can and do flip over. This section is for youth 10-15yrs only – see other RP9125 sections for programs that allow children and adults. Prompt drop off and pickup of child(ren) at recreational programs is mandatory. A parent/guardian must sign the child in/out and photo ID required at pickup. Children that complete this class will be awarded a Paddling Basics completion card that will allow them to paddle a single kayak from the Adventure Shack & Rentals in Centennial Park when renting with an adult.
Fees are per person. Detailed info emailed to the participant – Check your child’s registration to be sure you get it! No experience necessary. All equipment provided for use during the program; paddlers may bring their own boat and/or life jacket pending approval by instructor. This class meets the prerequisite for future paddling HCRP paddling trips.
