Unpack the power of visual storytelling! Join local artist and art teacher Jacob Boland for a dynamic, hands-on journey into the world of comic book art. Designed specifically for young creators, this class goes beyond the page to teach the foundations of graphic art through a mix of exciting mediums such as pen and ink, linocuts, collage, and ink wash. Whether drawing from their own lives or building wild fictional worlds, students will use narrative, interpretation, and autobiography to bring their unique visions to life. The journey unfolds step-by-step as students master sequential and non-linear storytelling, learning how to map out their big ideas through panel layouts, outlining, and thumbnail sketches. From there, they will dive into composition and blocking to frame scenes like a pro, capturing a reader's attention on every page. Finally, young artists will bring their worlds to life by experimenting with traditional inking techniques, coloring, and unique print mediums. By the end of the course, your child will walk away with the skills of a graphic artist and their very own custom comic book!
