Join Chicago School of Musical Arts this summer to begin or continue learning an instrument and play in a rock band. Rock band classes feature guitar and bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals. Rock Band teaches kids to perform, improvise, and compose using the popular styles that they know and love, including rock, pop, reggae, hip-hop, R&B and other styles. These rehearsals get young musicians to learn the fundamentals of their instrument while playing with a band. Guitar: The Chicago School of Musical Arts is excited to offer a Summer Rock Guitar Class for students grades 3rd - 5th. During the week, future rock stars will learn the basics of playing the guitar, as well as rock-specific techniques, all through practicing pop and rock songs from the dawn of Rock & Roll to the hits of today. All that's required is that the student has a guitar to practice on, and of course, a rock attitude. Electric or acoustic, steel or nylon string, they're all good for Rock & Roll! Keyboard: Start your musical journey with basic keyboard fundamentals, techniques, and musicianship skills. Build a forever foundation for making music! Students will play both solo and together in ensembles. Please make sure you have a keyboard or piano at home. Drums: Lay down the rhythm and beat of a song. Students learn basic drum technique in a variety of songs. Steady beat, back beat, tempo, rhythm and listening skills. Voice: In this high energy voice class, students will learn a variety of songs together in a group and have the opportunity to improve their vocal performance skills. This includes learning about good posture, breathing technique, clear vocal production, tonality and pitch, beginning music theory and acute listening skills. It’s important that the students listen to one another and encourage and support one another. This will enable them to sing better as a unit. Singing has been shown to improve confidence; and as a result, some may have the desire to sing solos!
