About This Activity
Campers will investigate ocean ecosystems and adaptations through activities like squid dissections, games like turtle hurdles, gyotaku fish printing, and more. We will also include a day-long field trip to the Shedd Aquarium and a half-day afternoon field trip studying the shoreline at an Evanston beach. Throughout the week, we’ll also watch and discuss scenes from Netflix’s The Sea Beast, comparing its mythical creatures to the fascinating—and sometimes monstrous—real life of the deep sea, as well as the underlying conservation themes. The camp will combine inquiry, creativity, and adventure—with the goals of gaining knowledge and inspiring conservation of our oceans.
