This re-imagined class will introduce students to important skills in reading vocal music in multiple styles. Students will explore musical theater, contemporary styles, classical, and choral music and ensemble singing. The first half of the semester, the class will explore the fundamentals of score reading and note comprehension, rhythm exercises, key signature and time signature recognition, and aural and sight-reading skills using solfege. In the second half of the semester, students will apply these skills in songs and sight-reading exercises, learn proper breathing techniques, the cardinal vowels of singing, and performance skills. The class will culminate with a final in-class performance of songs and skills learned in the course.
Students are welcome to repeat the class. New repertoire will be introduced in each session!
