Join us for our first two-week summer theater program! Unleash your creativity and share your voice in an entirely original, and personalized artistic endeavor featuring writing, acting, movement, and visual art. In this unique interdisciplinary program, students will work together to create a brand new performance piece and an accompanying exhibit of visual and creative art.
What is Devised Theater?
- NO pre-written script. The script is created entirely by students during the two week program.
- YES to collaboration. Every student is an essential playwright and performer.
- YES to multidisciplinary endeavors. Students will be creating art, writing scripts, and working creatively in multiple art forms.
- The story is personal. The performance is based on the ensemble’s own experiences and ideas.
This program is ideal for both beginners and experienced performers, visual artists, writers and creative thinkers who are ready for an artistic adventure. Students will spend their mornings in acting classes, creative writing workshops, and visual arts seminars, creating and developing the story they want to tell. Afternoons will be spent in rehearsing as an ensemble.
Our partners, The Precipice Theatre Team will expertly guide students through their internationally-celebrated devising process to create an autobiographical, ensemble-driven performance and accompanying gallery of visual art. Devised theatre is created by the students and considers significant questions that are crucial to the participants and their communities. Students work in a uniquely collaborative environment to create a fully-realized performance piece in just two weeks!
Ideal for actors, movers, creative artists, and writers in middle and high school, this program will culminate in a premiere performance on the evening of Friday, August 7.
