About This Activity
We will have several different age groups for each camp. There will be a group of very young kids Tennis Buddies (ages 6-8), younger kids Smashers (ages 9-12) and then a group of kids working towards high school tennis ACES (ages 13-17). Each group will have an agenda that is specific to their age group, which will also build in subsequent weeks for those who attend multiple weeks. Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) for each group: Tennis Buddies - Develop hand-eye coordination through fun games - Begin to rally the ball through modified drills and equipment - Learn the Basic Strokes of Tennis (Forehand, Serve, Backhand, Volley) Smashers - Develop the ability to rally the ball in a modified court with modified balls - Learn to better execute the Basic Strokes of Tennis (Forehand, Serve, Backhand, Netplay) - Learn the basics of playing a match, including scoring and basic rules Aces - Develop more advanced abilities to rally on a full-court with yellow balls with a focus on footwork patterns and court coverage - Understand the parts of a point and how to successfully analyze the situation and develop a strategy for success based on player strengths and weaknesses - Learn the basics of doubles including positioning and strategies of each player on the team in various strategic situations - Each camper receives a camp t-shirt. Snacks and drinks provided. - Video analysis of strokes and matchplay provided. - Maximum of 20 campers per session. Each camp counselor has been through an extensive background check and is a certified USTA/PTR/USPTA Level One Professional.
