Drama Art with Deborah Phillips.. These classes will include a story presented by instructor. The participants are engaged in structured movement prompts to act out the story adding their improvisational interpretations. In one version the story is presented first and the students create artwork to follow the expressive movement section. In a second format the artwork is created first and used as costume or prop along with the movement section. Deborah is a retired modern dancer and former member of two dance companies, The Ann Woodhead Dance Company and Christopher Beck’s Dance Theatre Company, both here in California. I have worked as Theater Manager in the Bay Area at Centerspace Theater. I have produced and directed many shows in both dance and theater. From 2004 - 2013 I taught a Theater Arts Program at The Good Hope School in the Virgin Islands to students from pre-k to high school, managed the 300 seat theater and presented two large scale shows per year featuring student actors. More recently I taught creative movement classes and worked on staff at SPACE in Ukiah, a performing arts school and theater for youth. Currently I live in Fort Bragg and teach youth classes with Mendocino Recreation and Parks Department and Gloriana Theater as well as teach adult yoga classes at Rise and Be Well, Santosha, and Stanford Inn. Children of all ages are invited to enjoy storytelling ,movement and creative art. Starts at 1pm sharp! Drop-ins welcome!
