About This Activity

Is your athlete between the ages of 13 and 15 and is interested in finding out what is needed to coach gymnastics then we have a program for them. NPGA will be implementing a PRE-COACH IN TRAINING PROGRAM with the goal of introducing this program starting in March. The Pre-Coach in Training program is designed to develop leadership skills that individuals can use, not only as a coach, but also throughout life to help others. PRE CIT's will learn about the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle, and gymnastics as a fundamental movement sport. They'll study the ABCs of physical literacy and gain hands-on coaching experience under the guidance of our qualified coaches. They will learn about basic child development and care. Participants can expect to have an interactive experience in learning leadership and coaching skills by using a combination of hand-ons practice, reflection, and traditional classroom learning techniques. The Coach in Training program teaches skills through group discussion, gymnastics training, mentorship and apprenticeship with coaches. It consists of approximately: ● 15 hours of instructional training with our experienced NCCP certified coaches (this training will usually take place on an evening or weekend once a month for approx. 2 hours) ● 20 hours of online child development and child care ● 40 hours (minimum) of voluntary coach shadowing in our Active Start and Fundamental programs. During this period, you will shadow coaches in a variety of classes with opportunities to lead games, stretches, and explain and demonstrate skills on all apparatus. This can be worked around participants schedules (usually once a week for a couple of hours) ● **Participation in the Pre-CIT program does not guarantee that you will continue in the program past the instructional training. NPGA reserves the right to determine which individuals will continue to volunteer shadow coach(es) following the Pre-CIT course.
