In this hands-on stem class, students will explore the engineering, design, and creativity behind traditional Native American homes from different regions of North America. Students will learn how Indigenous peoples used natural resources, geography, climate, and problem solving skills to build homes such as tipis, longhouses, pueblos, chickees, and igloos that met the needs of their communities. This class encourages critical thinking, cultural appreciation, teamwork, and hands-on learning as students design and construct their own models inspired by traditional Native American architecture.
