CRYPTOGRAPHY: PAST AND PRESENT LOCATION: Upper School Classroom GRADES: Middle and High School DESCRIPTION: Students will learn about the history of cryptography and the principles of cryptanalysis. We will learn about monoalphabetic, polyalphabetic, and block ciphers as well as various codes. Students will learn some of the fundamental principles of historical cryptography that were prevalent before the advent of modern public key cryptography in the 1970s and 1980s. We will also try our hand at creating and solving encrypted messages using a variety of systems, ranging from those that can be solved upon inspection to those that are theoretically perfectly secure.
