About This Activity

DESCRIPTION: Throughout history, numerous experiments have been conducted that have led to lifesaving cures, groundbreaking discoveries in genetics and chemistry, and more. We are all familiar with the stereotype of the mad scientist, often portrayed as a villain in movies or TV shows. But the real world is scarier than many would like to believe. While science often saves lives, sometimes scientists commit horrific crimes in the pursuit of achieving results. Some are ethical mistakes, lapses in judgment made by people who were convinced they were doing the right thing. Other times, there are simply no excuses for how deranged humans can be. This project will delve into the darker side of the scientific and medical world, exploring the methods used to achieve some of our most significant discoveries— all in the name of science.
