**This section is available to Lanier Village Estates residents only** Six IN-PERSON sessions *Required Course Supplies: Participants will need to purchase, on their own, a copy of Claire Keegan's short novel Small Things Like These.* January 13, 20, 27, February 3, 10, 17 The Irish people’s love of language and their creativity in using it come through in the works of Irish writers, who have rarely found themselves wanting for inspiration. Ireland’s complex political and social history has always provided fertile ground for literary exploration. This course will examine some of the many moods of Ireland through works by essayist Jonathan Swift; fiction writers James Joyce, Frank O’Connor, Edna O’Brien, William Trevor, and Claire Keegan; and poets William Butler Yeats, Seamus Heaney, and Eavan Boland. **All materials will be furnished except for Keegan’s short novel Small Things Like These – please purchase prior to the first class session.** Veteran BULLI instructor Karen Sirmans taught composition, American literature, and women's studies to young adults at Pensacola Junior College for 37 years. Now her great joy is sharing her love of literature with mature adults who bring the insights gained by years of living to class discussions.
