About This Activity

Six IN-PERSON Sessions March 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22 2:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. Discover the work of Rachel Carson, a quiet scientist whose writing revealed nature’s beauty and fragility. In this 6-week course, explore her two sea classics, both of them masterpieces of nature writing, as well as Silent Spring, the revolutionary book that launched the environmental movement. Reading is helpful but not required! Each session blends excerpts, images, short films, and discussion about the “web of life” that still connects and empowers us. Kevin Johnson is a journalist and retired educator who specializes in writing and teaching long-form journalism, especially works bearing on nature and environmental themes. He worked as a community journalist in South Carolina and Georgia before shifting to teach journalism in two Georgia universities. Kevin holds an MBA from The Citadel and an MFA in narrative media writing from the University of Georgia.
