Transport yourself into the vibrant food of Senegal on the west coast of Africa. In this hands-on cooking class students will prepare: black-eyed pea fritters with tamarind and honey dipping sauce (accara) and Sengelese beef and rice pilaf (thiebou yapp), reminiscent of jambalaya. For dessert, students will make sweet couscous pudding with nutmeg and cinnamon (thiakry). After making this delectable dinner, the class will sit down with Chef instructor Tisha Djissenou and enjoy the communal meal together.
Originally from Togo, Tisha is the owner of Versatile Catering, a woman and minority-owned catering company in Gaithersburg. She blends African, Caribbean and global flavors to create bold, made-from-scratch dishes that honor tradition but with a modern twist.
This is an in-person hands-on class. Participants will work with the chef instructor in our kitchen to prepare the recipes listed in the class description. Everyone will then get to enjoy these recipes together.
For your safety, we ask all students wear close toed, no slip shoes to this class
