Our Counsellor in Training (CIT) Leadership Program is designed for participants entering Grades 11 and 12 who are ready to take on new responsibilities and make the transition from camper to future Camp Latona staff member. The program begins with a minimum one week of required training, with the opportunity to return by invitation and continue developing their skills during our summer sessions: July 4–16, 2027 (Session 1 & 2) August 8–27, 2027 (Session 3, 4, & 5) We strongly encourage CITs to be available for as much of these dates as possible. The CIT program is an apprenticeship-style leadership experience, and participants gain the most from the program when they are able to spend extended time at Camp. The more time CITs are available, the more opportunities they have to work with different counsellors, cabin groups and program areas, build confidence, take on increasing responsibility, and become an important part of the Camp community. Through this transformative program, CITs have the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, practise a variety of teaching and facilitation techniques, and learn what it means to be a positive role model for younger campers. These skills are developed through direct interaction with campers in program areas, on trips, and throughout the daily experience of cabin and Camp life. The CIT program emphasizes responsibility, leadership and care for the Camp community. CITs learn how to help create the same Camp magic that brought them to Camp Latona while also preparing for the expectations of being part of a staff team. Participants learn to balance job responsibilities, teamwork and self-care while experiencing what full-time work at Camp is like.
