Do You Read Me? by Kathryn Funkhouser Comedy (non-musical) 4-9 actors (either m or f) approx. 30 minutes in length Everyone at NASA thinks that Dr. Weaver's Mars colony is a joke, because it's full of average joes instead of astronauts. Their mission? To grow the first eggplant on Mars. As Dr. Weaver takes reports from the self-appointed experts, disappointed sci-fi fans, and customer service nightmares that inhabit the colony under the leadership of the arrogant Commander, the mission starts to seem impossible. But could there be more to the story than they're letting on? Written especially for actors to perform on video chat, Do You Read Me? is a space comedy about community. The play is structured as a series of 2-person scenes. Students in this virtual show will meet via zoom once a week for 9 weeks. They will work on improv, acting, and character development, and they will learn and rehearse the show. The last 30 minutes (approximately) of each class meeting/rehearsal time *may* be reserved for rehearsing/recording individual scenes. At the end of the 6 weeks, all of the recordings will be edited together into one complete show, and a link to view the final edit of the full performance will be sent to all participants.
