About This Activity

Who dosen’t enjoy reading a good book on a beautiful summer day? A beautiful summer day at the beach while reading under a cool umbrella? Well, while we are many miles away from the beach, I can offer you a shady spot on the beautiful Oakwood campus for reading and discussing selections from the Battle of the Books reading program. Our camp will divide the participants into two groups base on grade level. The Elementary School group will be focused on grades 3-5, and the Middle School group on grades 6-8. Book selections will be chosen from the newly released 2024-2025 Battle of the Books Listing. Two books will be selected for each group, and the camper will then select One of those books for the week’s activities. The choice of book selections will be emailed at a later date to those registered campers. The daily routine at the camp will revolve around 90 minutes devoted to independent reading of the camper’s selected book. After each day's reading is completed, there will be discussions of the books and preparation for the Battle’s verification process. Each day will also incorporate outside recess, snacks and other (word) games. So, put away the sand toys and grab a good book so we can read together!!
