Who doesn’t enjoy reading a good book on a beautiful summer day at the beach under a cool umbrella? Well, while we are many miles away from the beach, I can offer our campers a shady spot on the beautiful Oakwood campus for reading and discussing selections from the Battle of the Books reading program. In our camp, Mr. Imbimbo will divide the campers into two groups based on the Battle of the Books defined grade levels. The Elementary School group will be for grades 3-5, and the Middle School group will be for grades 6-8. Book selections will be chosen from the newly released 2025-2026 Battle of the Books listing. Two books will be selected for each group and then the camper will select 1-2 of those books for the week’s activities. The book selections will be emailed at a later date to the registered campers. This camp is also appropriate for students who may need some additional assistance in reading since we will provide individualized one on one attention and coaching. The daily routine at the camp will revolve around 90 minutes devoted to independent or assisted reading of the camper’s selected book/s. After each day’s reading is completed, there will be discussion of the books and mock competitions in preparation for the year end annual Battle of the Books regional and state competitions. Each day will also incorporate outside recess, snacks and other word games. So, put away the sand toys and grab a good book so we can read together. Instructor: Richard Imbimbo
