Instructor: Hannah Treasure Skill Level: Any Level Medium: Creative Writing Total Class Hours: 2 Description: Poets of all levels and experience are welcome to this generative workshop in which we’ll study and experiment with ekphrastic poetry — a type of writing that responds to works of visual art. Join Clemson University professor, Hannah Treasure, as we read poems by Natasha Trethewey, Charles Simic, and Claudia Rankine. We’ll examine the connection between art and our lives, and the way in which works of visual art can help us see ourselves — our emotions, our stories – more clearly. Through individual prompts and group writing activities, we’ll aim to enliven “still” art objects with narrative. This will be a fun, accessible environment, with an emphasis on the 'generative' nature of this workshop — my goal is for each of you to take away nuggets of great starts for poems you’ll be excited to return to later. Whether you consider yourself primarily a writer, or primarily a visual artist, this course will aim to energize your practice in either medium.
