Instructor: Caroline Campion Skill Level: Any Level Medium: Fiber Total Class Hours: 9 Description: Once a week for three weeks, Intro to Soft Sculpture will cover how to create a pattern for a 3D object, how the form determines material choices, and stitching and embellishing methods. Students will have the option to choose from a variety of objects and materials provided by the instructor. We will make a pattern from an object using masking tape and paper, choose an appropriate fabric to cut out the shapes, and use a needle and thread to hand-sew the form. Students will also have access to a variety of fillings (polyfil, rice, dyed wool, etc.) and embellishments (buttons, beads, yarn, fabric paint). This class is intended for those who can use a needle and thread to hand-sew and want to learn how to create a sculptural object from fabric. We will start by looking at images of other artists’ work as well as examples from the instructor and previous students. We will then get a step-by-step, hands-on experience creating a small soft sculpture with provided materials! All students will go home with a soft sculpture they handcrafted and knowledge of various processes they can use in the future. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.)
