Overview: Students will explore the natural layering of the ocean by investigating the changes in temperature, salinity, and density within these layers. Trip Description: Students will investigate ocean layering and density principles by building a model to show top, middle, and bottom ocean layers. Students will hypothesize and test models for these ocean layers, while also exploring the myth of Davy Jones Locker: how matter can be suspended between layers. Learning Outcome: Students will identify differences in layers through understanding of density and temperature differences in their models. Ocean Literacy Principles #1: Earth has one big ocean with many features
