Overview: Students will investigate bird species and explore their lifestyle and adaptations for survival in Long Island Sound. Trip Description: Students will learn about several different bird species and their place in the ecosystem. Students will determine their adaptations for survival, including their adaptive beaks. In this investigation, students will use models to mimic different types of bird beaks and how different beak shape and size allows them to survive. Learning Outcome: Students will identify types of prey for different birds by beak shape and structure. Ocean Literacy Principle #5: The ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems
