About This Activity

Description

We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Aikido “The Way of Harmony” is a martial and self-defense art developed in Japan in the early 1900’s. It is non-violent, dynamic and fun! Aikido teaches how to find a peaceful resolution to the most common forms of conflict. The instructor for the classes, Chris King, holds a second degree blackbelt in Aikido and has been teaching Aikido for children for the past 15 years. These classes will introduce basic movements, exercises and games of Aikido. Students will learn to develop self-discipline, focus and self-esteem while also improving balance, coordination and confidence. In addition, we will address issues of personal safety and bullying. The classes are open to children of all sizes and abilities ages 5 to 15 years old.
Instructor BioChris King has been teaching Aikido and self-defense in Healdsburg for the past 15 years. He currently holds the rank of nidan (2nd degree blackbelt) in two schools of Aikido. Sensei King is a retired Healdsburg bilingual elementary school teacher and presently teaches Spanish to elementary school students in Healdsburg. Sensei King has many years of study in Zen and mindfulness and is an authorized Zen and mindfulness instructor. He currently offers classes in both Sonoma County and Mexico where he teaches Zen, mindfulness and Aikido to youth and adults.
