About This Activity
Art 3 takes students deeper into a range of mediums and techniques through a series of focused projects. Over the course, students will explore: Sculpture with polymer clay — shaping and building three-dimensional forms *Charcoal portraits — developing observational drawing skills and mastering value, shading, and likeness *Oil painting — learning the rich, expressive qualities of oils, including blending and layering *Acrylic painting — working with fast-drying paint to build color mixing and brushwork skills *Watercolor — exploring washes, transparency, and the unique fluidity of the medium *Lino printing — carving and printing original relief designs Objectives of this class are to learn the elements of art (line, shape, color, value, texture, form, and space) and the principles of design (balance, contrast, rhythm, and unity). Students will also learn techniques for shading, perspective, and more advanced color mixing to help make their artwork feel dynamic and expressive. Please note: Taking Art 2 is not required to join this class. All young artists are welcome! On the final day of class, we invite parents to a special reception to celebrate their artists and to see the work your children have created throughout the semester.
